New loads for old walls

The project presented here is part of the work of urban renewal of district "Marassi" in Genoa, and concerns in particular one of the buildings considered worthy of preservation, for typological and formal character of which is still valuable testimony.

The intervention was primarily directed to the preservation of the facades and floors "seminato", and instead focused on the full consolidation of all horizontal structures: in particular, it was made an interesting roof structure, with metal trusses, the which, at the chain, support the last deck of the attic.

The use of steel made it possible to preserve all the precious floors "seminato", resulting in the consolidation of all the floors from below of them. The static design has used finite element software for controlling the stress caused by the designed structures, including highly concentrated loads transmitted by steel trusses to the masonry.
